The Science of Smoke and Dr. Miyabe Sheilds
Gung hay fat choy! Xīnnián hǎo" (新年好)! Happy New Year of the Water Tiger!
I met Miyabe Shields over the phone last Fall, when we were almost all still staying put in our homes. Miyabe is an inspiration and I could listen to her all day, her knowledge and easy way of explaining processes had me hooked. Miyabe works in the molecular mechanism of cannabis and psychedelics for mental health. With her background in pharmacology eicosanoids and her current project is validating and formulation of traditional plant-based medicines through the composition of medicinal smoke.
And how lucky are we now to have her podcasts and TikTok on Smoke’n’Science!
The topics run the gamut from making products with Smokenol to the science of cannabis.
Her description of the podcasts is so perfect that I can’t do better:
Breaking down the fact vs. fiction of cannabis for everyday users, this podcast is hosted by two Ph.D. cannabis research scientists, Dr. Miyabe Shields and Dr. Riley Kirk. While this may sound as dry and crusty as a forgotten two-year-old stash, these scientists are both daily users who prioritize being relatable and engaging, with the main goal of giving consumers practical knowledge that can directly translate into their own practices.
